Spending Fate Points

Spend a Fate Point to…

  • invoke an Aspect for +2 to roll, or reroll all dice (as limited by scope)
  • +1 to roll (no Aspect needed)
  • power a stunt requiring a Fate Point
  • declare a minor fact to be true when it relates to one of your Aspects (ex: You know such-and-such. You have a certain item handy. You had a contingency plan.)

You may invoke one Aspect from each “entity” in the conflict, plus your high concept. For example, in a firefight, the following lists categorizes the available aspects:

  • Your High Concept
  • One additional personal Aspect
  • One opponent Aspect (or on their equipment)
  • One setting Aspect
  • One situational Aspect (if one exists)
  • One zone Aspect (if one exists)
  • One equipment Aspect (if the task involves a piece of equipment)
  • One Aspect from each ally
  • Any number of free-taggable Aspects

For starship combat, the captain of each ship count as separate categories, and you may invoke the high concept of your ship separately as well:

  • Your starship’s High Concept
  • One additional Aspect from your starship
  • One Aspect from enemy vessel
  • One Aspect from enemy crew
  • Operator’s High Concept
  • One additional Aspect from operator
  • One setting Aspect
  • One situational Aspect
  • One zone Aspect
  • One equipment Aspect
  • Any number of free-taggable Aspects

Note that if an NPC is operating a system, operator Aspects cannot be used.
